Wind review · Beta 0.12

Read the conditions.
Tell us what feels wrong.

This short review is for experienced wind readers. It checks whether the cues communicate the simulated conditions clearly. Feedback helps us improve the model; it does not certify a real rifle or range.

Start at Camp Butner, 300 yards.
  1. Open Training on the Range Desk.
  2. Expand Experimental spatial wind and tick Use the spatial wind preview.
  3. Choose a lesson condition and start guided training. Use Line, Scope and Spot to compare what you see.
  4. Make your own wind call first. Open Instruments only when you want to check the firing-line reading.

Compare these conditions

Condition What to inspect
Calm Flags settle under gravity. Grass and trees should not have an unrelated repeating sway. The calm lesson disables simulated surface heating.
Strong crosswind Compare the nearest flag with flags farther downrange, grass and trees. Different positions and heights may show different flow.
Reversal Watch long enough for the direction to change. Look for a believable transition and any cue that continues to indicate the old direction.
Opposing zones Compare near and distant cues. The firing-line reading alone cannot describe the whole range.
Variable conditions Make an unaided call, fire, and inspect the saved shot. Repeat at 600 and 1,000 yards when comfortable.

Focus on mirage

Through the scope or spotter, compare near, middle and far focus. Report whether direction, strength and changes are readable, too strong, too weak or misleading. Please describe a specific condition and view rather than only saying it looks realistic.

Send useful feedback

Use Send feedback in the game. Include the range, distance, lesson condition, view, approximate time, browser and device. Tell us what you observed, what you expected and whether the difference affected your wind call. A screenshot or short recording can help.
